As published in SpillWords, read here
She burned everything to the ground,
watched, as it turned into a mound.
Emotional human in her- grimaces,
makes a necklace from the leftover ashes.
Initially unaware of its heavy weight,
she fell for the age old bait.
Moved ahead, turned a new leaf,
did not reminisce or shed grief.
But all throughout her traveled path,
the necklace left some of its part.
As she neared towards the end,
grew the lightness of the pendant.
Elated she looked back fast,
but her joy did not last.
Every road where she had once stroll,
smelled of burnt leaves and charcoal.
Her journey was over now,
all she could say was “ciao“.
Her whole life flashes,
what if she hadn’t collected the ashes?
As emotional humans we tend to walk with a lot of unnecessary burden on our shoulders which weighs us down and creeps in every good moment of our lives, tainting it. What if we didn’t collect the ashes of our failures? I would love to know your views.
A beautifully written analogy in lovely verse. ๐๐ฆโค๐บ ๐

True, though, some use ashes for โdecorative purposesโ, physical symbolism of sorts..
likewise, happy December!

So visual and stunning. I think my strength comes from my pain from my childhood abuse. Due to the alcoholism with both my parents there was also sexual assault and my mother was the perpetrator. Childhood molestation was also something that I had to deal with because of poor judgement of my parents when I was small. So many horrors I endured but I am resilient and definitely considered myself as a Warrior. I still have moments of deep sadness. God has been good to me though and for that I am grateful. Hugs my friend Bulbul. Love ๐ You Joni

Our experiences, no matter how horrible, shape us and make us stronger. I say this a lot that Whatever doesn’t kill us make us only stronger and you my friend is one tough cookie. I feel very deeply about child abuse and feel very sorry that you had to endure all of this; no one should be subjected to all this let alone a child. I am so glad and relieved that you are doing well now.
Warm hugs and prayers for you friend.

Sighs.
It’s like this piece is directed at me. I need to stop looking back, drop the ashes of the past and move on to greater things.
Inspirational piece.

Yeah we do and it sucks. When I read things like this they remind me of the damage that holding on causes.
I hope we all learn.

This is deep! I live it!
At one point or the other we’ve all been victims of this, holding on to things that we really should just let go of. I love how you described it as a necklace, because it’s so close to our hearts.

Thanks girl! I appreciate it. As humans we find it very difficult to live in the present, we tend to carry the burden for the rest of our lives. BTW I love the way youโve interpreted it, really amazing. ๐๐๐

Hi Akanksha, I want to nominate you to participate in the next celebrity contest on my blog, if it’s ok by you, please check out the details here, https://celebrityplatform.org/2017/07/31/becoming-a-celebrity/

Thank you so much, Jerry! I am greatly flattered by your proposal and feel grateful that you thought of me but I really think I don’t deserve it, not right now at least. There are much more deserving people than me who must be celebrated. So, I think I should decline for now but I would like a rain check on this offer, sometime in the future when I’m sure of my footing. I hope you’d understand.
Cheers

Looking back isn’t always good or pleasurable, but few failures are just too close to our hearts to let go of them.
