The Secret of Plants in the Environment- Book Review

Usually, I don’t review books other than fiction, but when I got a request for this one I couldn’t refuse, my academic background and personal interest in plants and environment compelled me to read it. I thank the author for providing me with the e-copy.

An educational & informative read!

The Secret of Plants in the Environment by Rishikesh Upadhyay discusses the impact of environmental changes or stress on plant life, environmental stress physiology, and adaptation mechanisms. It successfully highlights the impact of environmental stresses on plants and crops under changing environments and gives a comprehensive overview of how plants respond to such environments.

I, personally, like how every chapter starts with a beautiful quote giving the readers something to simmer on the back burner and the careful division of chapters based on the various stresses faced by the plants makes it easier to understand the intricate details.

The author manages to pack a whole load of information regarding the subject in a well-structured way making it extremely useful for the students and scholars who are pursuing the field. The book even though educational in its approach hasn’t been written in a textbook form which makes it less daunting to read.

The deep analysis of the subject supported by the detailed information accounts for a slow and patient reading experience. It took me more time than usual to finish this one but its succinct size and easy language increases it’s readability.

Although I read it with a welcoming delight, this book caters to a limited audience. Readers must have a fair amount of subject knowledge and scientific acumen to go with it, without which it will definitely be an uphill ride to develop a clear understanding.

As a huge repository for well-researched knowledge, it is an advanced educational and helpful guide for the undergraduates, postgraduates, and scholars of the field, and not a light read for the amateurs and hobbyists.

Dr. Rishikesh Upadhyay was born and grew up in a small Nepalis’ hamlet, Bhanjang Basti, just a few kilometres of Haflong, Assam, India. Dr. Upadhyay is an Assistant Professor, researcher, and author. He loves learning and teaching to expand his horizons and ideas. Upadhyay believes in and writes about Plants and its environment. Much of his work is confined to teaching and researching physio-biochemical and environmental stress responses in plants. Currently, he’s teaching Plant Environmental Physiology and Chemistry at a local government college affiliated to Assam University, India.

I congratulate the author for this commendable feat and wish him the best for all his endeavors.
